The Curse of the #50 Mustang

Team Euro/Cardio blew into Lime Rock, CT over Memorial Day weekend feeling frisky, even after hauling the 53 ft. race trailer for 15 hours and $90 in pocket-gouging tolls on the New York Toll Way.  Many race fans show up for the race and mistakenly think the big drama is played out on the track.  Au contraire mon frere!  The action on the track is nothing compared to what goes on back at the trailers.  This is where alliances are formed and enemies are made.  It's like being back stage at an Ice Capades tryout.  High drama!

For Team Euro, the curse of the #50 Mustang began during rig parking.  The parking of 60 or so trailers/semis in a small area like Lime Rock Park is frustrating and tedious, with precious little asphalt to share.  Setting up in the gravel or the grass is very much not a good thing.  As the process unfolded it looked like the paved area would be used up just before our turn to park.  Sure enough, we ended up being the 2nd team to set up in the gravel.  One of the Grand Am rules pertaining to team paddock set-up states that no team may begin unloading until all the team transporters are parked and set.  Evidently, a certain team which will go unnamed, but drives the #50 Mustang, did not get the memo.  They began unloading early AND to add insult to injury, happily strew their gear all over our end of the paddock.  In addition to those shenanigans, they had parked out of turn in an area which allowed them to get stuck in the muddy grass with their rig.  Their GS class #50 red Mustang was in our way already.  Little did we know, this would be the theme of the weekend for the Euro Motorworks/Cardiomotorsport entry and the #50 Mustang.  High drama!

There would be five different classes of cars running during the weekend, resulting in very little track time for everyone.  We had two short practice sessions on Friday and one very short session on Saturday followed by the usual 15 minute qualifying session.  Complicating things for the team was the fact we were trying out a new pilot to team up
